Generally, we neglect health care check-ups, mostly eye check-ups. There is no problem as long as we can see properly, right?

This is not true, as many eye diseases occur slowly without even knowing. This is why regular eye check-up is necessary to maintain your eye health. Prevention is always better than treatment. There are some common eye diseases which will occur if you neglect eye care.

Common eye conditions

Refractive errors:

Light entering our eyes passes through the eyeball, cornea, and lens and then falls on the retina to form the images we see. If the shape of the above three is slightly out of shape, there will be a refractive error, making it difficult for the light to enter the eyes and fall on the retina correctly. This type of condition is called refractive error.

There are different refractive errors based on various conditions;

  • Nearsightedness or myopia is when a person faces difficulty seeing faraway objects. Light falls short of the retina.
  • Farsightedness or hyperopia is when a person faces difficulty seeing objects closer to them. Light overreaches the retina.
  • Presbyopia is an age-related condition which makes it difficult for a person to look at closer objects.
  • Astigmatism is a curvature error which makes both closer and far away objects blur. Light falls unevenly on the retina.

All the above conditions can be treated with Laser procedure for eyes like LASIK eye surgery or SMILE or prescription glasses or contact lenses.

Vision Disorders

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is when excessive fluid builds up in your eyes, increasing pressure, resulting in optic nerve damage. The most common reason for blindness in elderly people nowadays is Glaucoma. Glaucoma is treated with Laser surgery or by certain medications prescribed by the doctor according to the severity.
